last computing day

this is my last day with my computer up and running in los angeles. i am moving out of my apartment today, and therfore my computer will be in the back of my car. i'm staying with luke s. until monday, upon which i am leaving for iowa. jasmine is flying into burbank this evening--i'm really excited. i'm excited for all the things we can do and see together in this city.

i've finished all my dvd makings and have given them to most of my friends out here. so yea. it's was a great semester. i look forward to seeing you iowans soon, and those of you who don't live in iowa, well, i'll see you too.

got to finish packing...

thursday!

it's all done. officially now. i just got back from my meeting for my screenplay. all is well. kris said that my idea is really great for this screenplay. in fact he told me that the producer guy that came to class liked my idea a lot. so that's cool. he also said that the draft of firstness lacked any real, um, quality. meaning, basically, he thinks, if i'm up for it, i should trash this last one, learn what i did from it and write another draft. and i plan on it. we spent a lot of time brain storming ideas for where i could go with it.

i guess on another day, like a really stressful day this would have upset me, but today it was like, yea, that's cool. i totally agree. there is something missin in this screenplay. he also encouraged me to write. just write. be a writer. not someone who want's to write, but someone who writes.

well. two days until the girl comes to la. i'm really excited. then two days after that we head towards iowa. oh iowa.

well. that's what's going on.

satuday

today is my first free staturday in recent memory. i guess i had one or three over my break, but those don't really count. i haven't really done much today. i called mom and dad, said hey for a while. talked about the future and other such things. it looks like i will be coming back to sioux center for the summer. there are many reasons, one being the job i wanted didn't really happen, but it might in the fall.

i did laundry today. i really needed to do it. i was , um, low. on everything. i am also working on authoring my dvd of videos here at LAFSC. as per usual, i'm working too hard on it, meaning that i have spent many hours on it, but it's been like, work on it for a while, then leave it for a while. i got one done, but didn't like how it turned out on my dvd player, so i'm trying a different way now. oh the different cats. how i love to skin you.

everything is done. i don't really have anything to do these days. it's really nice. so yea. some final meetings on monday, and then a banquet on tuesday, and the showing of the final films on wednesday morning. that's what's going on.

hope things are well otherwise around the planet. with whomever reads this.

friday the last

this is my last internship day. basically, my last day of the semester. we have stuff next week, like meetings about how awesome we are. and then we talk about the end. we have a banquet, a showing of final acting films, and final producing films, and then it's done. i wrote my last papers yesterday. they may be the last papers i'll write in a long time. crazy.

i'd say this has been a great semester. probably the best. i mean, not much can stack up to contemporary philosophy with everett and stephen and taz, but spending a whole semester with people who know so much about film and story telling, it's wonderful. people who have encyclopedic knowledge. i feel so silly in my own limited knowledge.

saw "Breaking the Waves" this week. it's a Lars von Trier film. lots of sex.

i really liked it. but i'm fairly partial to von Trier. Dogville is the one that he did that i wrote my paper on. this is the one that kinda got him national recognition.

so yea. 5 days till the end of the semester. 10 days until i leave for sioux center.

jack....in.....la.....

ps. does anyone know someone in denver? where we could stay for a night?

fin

well, it seems that i have finished my screenplay. it's a wopping 93 pages. i like it though. i wasn't sure that i would, i was unsure if it held together as a whole, but it does i think. i'm really close to it though. so hopefully i'll get some good comments. and fodder for a re-write.

in other news, i'm going to jay leno tonight(this afternoon). so if you want to maybe see my face on national television, tune in. i'm sure i might be on for like, a fraction of a second. i'm going because i want to see the musical guest--not for ashton kutcher. even though he is an iowa boy.

i have one internship day left. one day of classes left. and then some final type meetings next week and it's all over. it's really weird. to think that i'm going to be done. finished. so weird.

travel the road people are supposed to call me today. we are going to do a phone interview. i guess persistence paid off so far with that one.

well. that's what is going on.

10 days--till lafsc is over.

3 days--of internship left

4 days--of official classes (and to get my screenplay done)

84 pages--my current total of pages.

wow-k.

avoiding screenplay

it seems to be my style as of late, to do as much as i can to not write my screenplay, and then finally get going on it. when i do get going, i usually write a lot. it's just getting from the point where i'm checking all my email accounts and my blog to getting down to business and writing. yesterday i worked from home, and fully intended to work on the screenplay, but i got distracted by the couch--and i slept the afternoon away. oh sleep.

talked with my old friend ryan de haan yesterday. on the computer. man i miss that guy. always working on some crazy project, something that you think he won't be able to do, but he gets it done. he's always got some crazy trip in the works too. this time is backpacking in central america. i will not be surprised if he actually does it. he does crazy stuff. he is at kings now. i hope he is enjoying it.

a few days ago a friend of mine, chris, asked me what my top five stranded on a desert island albums were. i thought it might be interesting to hear what those who read this might pick. mine are (subject to change...in no order) :

"I'm wide awake it's morning" Bright Eyes

"In an aeroplane over the sea" Neutral milk hotel

"IV" Led Zeppelin

"everyone's beautiful" Waterdeep

"ethan's next cd" ethan koerner

i pick these, mostly because of their repeat value for me, and for variety while i'm stuck on that island.

what would yours be?

april 12

well. Today is tuesday. We have no more filmmaking classes, so i have the day off. therefor i'm doing my best to write all day. I'm not sure how well i'm going to do. I have written about 10 pages already. maybe today will be the day that i get crackin' on this screenplay. i have a little bit more direction lately on the screenplay too. i want to bring out the theme of control. control brings chaos.

Like you may or may not have seen, my last film is done. so, all i really have left are three small papers--two reviews and a response--and this screenplay. it is really feeling like the end is near. it's crazy. I'm trying to find work. I'm hoping that i get this travel the road thing, but i'm not sure what is going on with that right now. they haven't kept in very constant communication about the job. I'd like to do that internship with them, so it makes it hard to look for different work. i guess i just have to do it. maybe something more amazing and resume building is out there.

along with the job hunt comes the apartment hunt. if i get the travel the road job, then i won't have to worry about an apartment, but if i don't...then who knows. there are about 3 guys that are staying that i'd like to live with. it's such a chicken or the egg thing. you need the apartment to stay, and to get an apartment you need work. arg.

all in all, this has been a great semester. i can't believe it's about over. i only have 5 more internship days. two more shooting days on the Zombie Rehab movie. And then it's all done. a week of debriefing of sorts, then drive to iowa. and graduate. weird.

well. that's what i've been thinking about lately. hopefully this day of writing is successful. less blog more screenwrite. less talk more rock.

oh, i just remembered. i watched fareinheit 911 again last night. it was for class this time. man i can't stand that movie. as a film it is just horrible. it doensn't hold my attention. the logic strands are so vague and dumb. it's a tinge ironic though. i'm not a big fan of bush, or of the war, but i think i like michael moore, less. that was an awesome sentance. moore less. maaahahaha.

more to come. someday.

movie three

is entitled "Perfection" it debuted at the los angeles film studies center filmmaking class A. it's done. i like it. it was a hard edit. i like it.

i should get it online soon. maybe in the next few days. hopefully today will be filled with screenwriting. working on the old script there.

it's been a good few days. yesterday was weird. i got off work early, and then edited for a while. and then edited more. and more. and then more. and then i shot some more of jon's movie. which is similar to mine in a lot of ways.

i've been doing some job hunting. hopefully i'll find something soon.

all that's left really is some movie reviews, and a final film, on which i'm the DP. (director of photography).

about three weeks left.

good times.

sunday!

one week since you looked at me. it's been one week.

that's a barenakedladies song. for those of you who may not be into the popular culture thing.

one week since i was in sioux center for the last day. one week since easter. one week.

it looks like i'll be out here for another three weeks. i'm finishing up my last project this week. it's due on tuesday. i'm doing the last of the filming today. then editing. i'm not even sure when i'm going to edit this thing. so much to do!

then final films for me. i'm dping a romantic zombie movie. it ought to be interesting.

to sam: yes i do. and i broke it. i bet it is still in that pot at my parents house.

i am not thinking in paragraphs today. one lines...

ten minus 8 = 2

i filmed about a third of my movie today. i didn't actually run the camera. my friend chris did. it was great. he's a talented cameraman/dp. good stuff. maybe if my story doesn't work, it will still look really pretty. exciting stuff.

i'm still awake. i guess it's late. i'm not tired.

today was one of those days at my internship that made me really enjoy working for tandem arts. they are great guys, and i really feel like i am doing good helpful work. i did some planing/thinking about how they should structure their company. how they should get things done. it was good. i also was helpful i guess, in giving an opinion of the trailer. which i started the editing of about three+ weeks ago. it's great. i really think it's a good trailer.

all in all this week was very good.

if the weekend holds up to the weeks standards these next weeks should fly by.

outty.
