af!

so, the arcade fire did not dissapoint. they rocked. one of the best live shows i've ever seen.

thinking about live shows, it's hard to compare them.

Ben Harper was rockin'.

Sufjan was splendid.

Modest Mouse was fantabulous.

Back in the day, Newsboys were good. DC Talk was even good. I must say, Live shows are a good time.

The Opening acts, Bell Orchestre and Wolf Parade were very good too. better than most opening bands.

Arcade Fire!

I am going to see the arcade fire tonight with, dane, joshua, ross, alan, karl, jess, and chris. i'm really excited for it. We are leaving at 1pm. the show in in minneapolis. woohoo!

i surprised jasmine last night. when we parted ways on sunday, she said, "you could surprise me on wednesday!" to which i said, "maybe..." to keep the mystery alive.

then i called her yesterday around 5:30, which is unusual, so she thought maybe something was up, but i parked in such a fashion at her apartment so that she couldn't see me. i watched her try to evade my surprise by maybe suggesting that she had somewhere else to go, but when she didn't see me or my car she delayed that train of thought. just when she believed i was not there, i appeared from a distance. she called me a "stinker". i believe i was crafty. anywho, i'm off to work. and then to play!

strawberry cheese cake!

monday

today was productive. I worked this morning. I finished off another video. Make it 17 completed. By the time we are done i think we might have more than thirty. I can't believe we are going to have that many, but I can't complain, it's keeping me very busy. At least as busy as I like to be.

This afternoon I made a trip to Sioux Falls to pick up my grandparents from the airport. The made an emergency trip to Florida because my great uncle Mac died. I didn't know him very well--we only met once I think. I was back by 3:30, it was the first time I went to sioux falls and didn't see jasmine, I believe.

I finished working on a computer that I had trouble with. Then, after supper, I went to the Town Hall meeting at Covenant. The topic for discussion was Women in Office. I fall on the side that is in favor of it. It was very interesting to hear all the stances, posits, suggestions, requests and opinions. I learned a lot, and found that I am strongly in favor of having Women in Office.

Then, I went to Comedy League practice. That was extremely entertaining. I really enjoyed myself. Not only was it invigorating because of the physicalness, but it was also really funny. It's very common, I think, to have amazing 'practices' and then shows that are good, but not nearly as funny as the practice. I hope comedy league does really well this year. There are a lot of new faces.

I found out that today, the 26th is the anniversary of jasmine asking me to date her. Both of us never really knew the exact date. i mean, we knew that it was the day before easter, but never actually looked it up. so tonight, the spirit wispers in her ear to check it out, and wallah! it's exactly six months ago. so, six months later, here we are, and everything is different--It's Great!

I also found out that I am on IMDB. How about that. Check it out for yourself!

I thought that was the coolest thing of the day until i found out that I have been dating jasmine for six months. that totally wins. What a great way to start the week!

week

Twas the night before and all was quiet.

This weekend brought many entertaining things to mine eyes, ears, mouth and nose. My hands were also involved.
We drove to strawberry
[that's what the locals call it, no 'point' in their vocabulary.]
Got their early, 12 midnight.
slept quick.
i started "the curious incident of the dog in the night-time".
i like it sofar.
went to the wedding.
it was catholic, but no mass.
[i contemplated writing why there was no mass, but i thought better of it.]
then recepted the couple at a community type center.
we ate dinner without knives.
we danced to slower songs.
we left for a bar.
$1.50 for draught.
talked with friends.
enjoyed.
sunday brought a visit to grandma moeller.
she is much better than before.
ate dinner--broasted chicken from the store.
drove drove drove west.
enjoyed.
now home, i miss my love.
stiff neck, unsure of it's beginnings.
sleeps is calling, but the book is winning.

and the week moves on

at a steady pace. I was blessed last evening with a visit from my girlfriend. I love her.

Philosophy work has been progressing really well. After months of work, I feel like we are really hitting a stride. We now have 16 videos completed, with 4 or 5 more on the editing docket, and about 6-12 more on the "we should really do..." [we haven't started those]. Yesterday Professor Henderson asked me who I thought should be my successor. I suggested Elbert Bakker. I hope, if elbert happens to read my blog, that he finds out from Henderson and not this text [so you, don't tell elbert about this and undermine it all....you].

It's weird for me to think about what will be next. I'm excited because that means more steady and consistent work, but it also means I might not be Director of Photography, Editor and Exporter for a whole project. I'd gladly give up the first and the last title if I could just be an Editor, but, I fear, it will be logging tapes and filing papers for a while. Who knows, right? It might go faster! I hope it does.

As far as the job search goes, i'm at 12-13 applies with one response. which isn't so bad i guess. I'm hoping that the connections I already do have provide for more oppurtunities.

I've noticed some issues with my blog on different browsers. IE6 doesn't seem to like the pictures that much--an issue with transparency. Safari wants to reload the links list every time you look at it. Firefox, Netscape, and IE7 seem to handle it just fine. So, let me know if you are having issues, I'll see what I can do about it.

the rest of the week brings these things:

something new

alright boys and girls, i have changed my blog again.

this time it's not so noticeable.

it's the links. after each person's name is the name of their latest post. hopefully, this will help you know if you've read/seen that one before.

i had to teach myself some php and some html to do it. i hope you like it.

jjjjjjack.

[ps reuben, get rss/atom on your blog and i'll have yours with the latest post too.]

[pss what should i do next?]

friday!

the week, goes like this, monday-work, tuesday-work, wednesday-work, thursday-work, friday-work. saturday-play.

okay, i do more than work during the week, but i'm looking forward to seeing jasmine today when my work is complete. it feels like i haven't seen her for a long while. it's been 5 days or so. after spending everyday with eachother again on the roadtrip, i've become used to seeing her everyday. and i like it.

i'm not sick of the look of my blog yet. are you?

i'm thinking, when i get some time...maybe this weeked i might change up some pictures again. who knows...maybe add some.

i finished a big part of the philosophy stuff. we now have 14 videos done. they range from 6 minutes to 53 minutes. yesterday i finished the 53 minute one. what a load off my shoulders. of course, everything might need to be changed after students watch it and inform us that they are all entirely too long and too boring. there has only been a little bit of that kind of talk. i think the videos are getting better too. more interesting, more watchable.

it's the 16th of september, that means it's half over. this month is going fast. november seven may be here sooner than i think.

i'm going to sell my bus. does anyone out there want to buy it? i'm thinking i will put it on the dordt marketplace thing, see if any students/faculty/staff want it. i've already contacted the people i thought might want it...maybe someone i would have never thought of will want it. simultaneously i think i'll put it on ebay. I'm thinking i'm going to do a reserve for the first time i put it up there. that way, if i sell it at dordt first, or if the reserve gets met, i'll be happy. that sentance didn't really make sense. what i meant was, if i sell it at dordt, hopefully it'll be for the price i want, near the reserve on ebay. and if the ebay auction closes and it's higher than my reserve, i'll also be happy.

that was too labourous. you get it don't you. i explained it far past the point of you getting it. it's the air, the aura of the text.

when i think about pumpkins i think about pumpkin land on the way to orange city. if you take the "back way".

what do pumpkins make you think of?

where and when was the last time you carved a pumpkin?

i'm killing time whist i render.

tuesday the thirteenth.....

i applied for four more jobs.

i more excited about these, partly because they are new, and partly because a few of them, 2, are quite exciting i think. on is working for havocTV, which sounds cool, it's a video on demand type thing for indie rock and roll/music. another one is finding cool short films.

this whole job hunting thing is a challenge.

solidified two jobs today, stuff around sioux center. making a demo video for a consulting firm and setting up the computer side of video surveillance. so those things are good for me, keep me on my toes and doing different things.

i just figured out that safari i am using at dordt does have tabbed browsing--i thought it was how old the browser was, but it just wasn't turned on. silly jack, trix are for kids.

anywho. i spent this morning doing non-philosophy work, applying and working for and researching for other people.

i'm finding that i like the variety.

it's official.

my blog will be like this for now. i mean, a few months hopefully. last night, after i was all done changin' it up, i went and searched for something else i might like, i guess, to satisfy my curiousity of what is all out there. there is more cool stuff. i'm thinking my skin/template whatever you would like to call it is good for now. it might become like one of those dvd menus with animation everytime you go to another menu, it gets really old really fast. i hope this stays interesting for a while, i could always change the pictures everyday if i wanted...that could get old too.

as things go, i'm doing okay. i was kinda on a day of "what the crap am i doing" yesterday. i didn't want to work, i didn't want to do anything really. but today is better, i called henderson and was like, okay, i'm lost. and he was like, "i'll be over later, hold on little fella." so he came and now i'm making good headway. it was a good old time.

at the moment i needed a little break from it all, so i read some blogs and decided to do a daily update on mine.

so, yea, things are hopping right along. no new work offers today, and no confirmations on other work pending, so i guess it's a slow day. but good.

it's also friday, which means i get to see jasmine. woohoo! it's looking like if we don't get jobs before november 7, we are going to move anyway. and then get jobs when we live there. it will be a little bit of a snafoo if we don't have apartments when we mooooove, but i know people and jasmine knows people that we can crash with.

welp, i guesss that's all i gots.

morning.

well, i took the morning off. i didn't feel like working, so i didn't. it's nice to have a relaxed work schedule. i'm going in this afternoon. so, i made some changes on this blog. let me know what you think.

i'm liking it right now. i plan on changing the pictures that scroll...let me know if you think i should keep any of the ones that are up there now.

and let me know if this just looks really bad in another browser. i'm using firefox and netscape, it looks good.

another job fell into my lap today. it's more of a consulting thing, for computers, not long term, but helpful for this chap's goal to move to los angeles.

back in sioux center

i was going to say home...but it's not really home. or is it? garden state has this to say about home: strike that, about family:

A group of people who miss the same imaginary place.

(it's about home too...)

so i guess i have arrived here. I'm sortof working. what i mean is that i don't really have direction to go on the philosophy stuff yet, so i'm meeting with henderson today to discuss the future of this project.

i'm also finding other work oppurtunities. things i didn't even plan on. a video project of a speech, and a archiving of a lot of old photographs. (4000) so, i guess i'll be keeping busy and making the money.

for the geeks out there, i'm copy about 270 gig from the computer's internal hard drives to the external 320 gig hard drive that i bought for dr. henderson last week. it says it's going to take, about 9 more hours. so, that's taking some serious time. it's good though. it means we can be free of this one machine if we have to be.

also for you geeks out there, the new ipod nano. how about that? huh?. i expect that is what the big smart people at apple want me to write. they want me to rant and rave about how small it is and how awesome it looks. well, i say, what the crap. ok, yea it's small, 1.5" by 3.5" but i spend fifty more bucks and i get 30 gig. that's like 26gig for 50 dollars. i'm not sure that losing a little depth and width is worth it. but hey, it'll play music for three days straight! woohoo!

[if you want to buy me an ipod, i'll take it. i'm not picky--whether it's a shuffle, or nano, or color or not. i'll take it.]

[i may already own an ipod, but it's really old, and full. that's right, i have a five gig ipod and it's full.]

enough of the geeky talk. i like music. and i purchased a few new albums on my journey to canada, ontario, hamilton. the new pornographers--twin cinema, and sufjan stevens--seven swans. i like them both. i would say seven swans is the more favorite right now. and no, i don't feel that dirty writing new pornographers, although i used to, a little.

whel. that's that i guess.

me and jasmine have been talking about when to move. like set a date, if we don't have jobs, just move. i won't tell you the date, because we haven't decided yet.

[[[edits, ok, so it's 20 gig for 299, but c'mon people, that's still 16 more gigs, like 4,000 songs for 50 bucks. and, i'm copying about 170-180 gig, not 270, it'll still be another 6.5 hours...but you know apple... their estimates are always high...]]]

ON(tario)

this, is our last evening in ontario. I'm about to go to bed, because we are planning on leaving around six am. we watched three arrested development episodes, which i am quite a fan of. we went out to eat, i had a big kahuna burger, which had pineapple, teryaki sauce and swiss cheese on it. I liked it quite a bit.

We've also done a lot of beer drinking and things of that nature. we went on a brewery tour yesterday, Steam Whistle brewery in toronto. it was fun. and free, which we didn't expect, so that was really cool. reuben has been buying a lot of european beer from the local store here, so i've had two different polish beers and bass which is an english beer. plus some canadian beers whist we were in toronto. it was a grand time.

all the other people we have visited have been doing fairly well. kelly and jer, chris and jordan, reuben and heidi, becca, and of course the wedding of beth and paul. it has been a really good trip and vacation. we are going to kalamazoo tomorrow to spend time with jo, one of jasmine's close friends from high school. i've met her once before, but i don't remember her that well. then home. we may be breaking into matt's place...maybe...

anywho. time well spent. i really like traveling and seeing friends. it's great.
